This house was designed for a renowned NZ Photographer who specified the house to be simple but of an interesting design, providing a back-drop for displaying her work.
The site is very steep and narrow, making it necessary to step the house down the slope in order to meet town planning regulations.
A house lot of industrial steel windows had been purchased by the client and provided a fundamental design parameter in which to work.
The living area is positioned on the upper floor to allow for views onto Whakanewha Regional Park and the sea.
The bedrooms, bathroom and a storage area occupy the lower floor, in intimate contact with the regenerating bush enclosing the house site.
